Announcing Summer Workshops on Hindustani Vocal Music: May-June 2024

The Antarnaad School of Hindustani Music is excited to announce its second annual summer workshop on Hindustani (North Indian Classical) Music. Last year's workshop was very well received. 25 students received training for several weeks and performed in the inaugural student recital of Antarnaad in June 2023.

In this year's 4-session workshop, we will give voice lessons and cover the salient aspects of Hindustani Music through lecture-demonstrations (lec-dems). The workshops will be spread over 4 days, from May 25 to June 15 (Saturdays for ages 7-17 and Thursdays for Adults), culminating in a student recital on June 22.

Tentative agenda:

Day 1: Lec-dem: Overview of Hindustani Classical Music (30 min), followed by voice lessons (60 min)

Day 2: Lec-dem: Raga, the melodic framework (30 min), followed by voice lessons (60 min)

Day 3: Lec-dem: Tala, the rhythmic framework (30 min), followed by voice lessons (60 min)

Day 4: Lec-dem: Naad Yoga, the Yoga of Sound (30 min), followed by a review of all sessions and rehearsals for the student recital on June 22 (60 min)
